Want to get your hands on a new artistic pursuit for 2019?

The city’s arts and heritage programming for the winter season has a few options for you.

On Saturday, Feb. 2 and Sunday, Feb. 3, instructor Nicole Brabant will lead a two-day workshop for adults (aged 16 and up) in watercolour monoprinting. All supplies are included, and the workshop costs $46.50 for both days. It runs 1 to 4 p.m. daily at the Anvil Centre, Studio 411B.

Then, for four Thursdays starting Feb. 14, instructor Cara Seccafien is leading a class in drypoint printmaking. Participants must be at least 16 years old, but no prior drawing, art or printmaking experience is required. The course costs $75 for four sessions, and supplies are included. It runs 5:30 to 8 p.m. nightly at the Anvil Centre, Studio 411B.

For those who’ve always hankered to try needle work, Irving House is offering a four-session course called Embroidery 101, starting Saturday, Feb. 23. Sessions run from 9:30 to 11 a.m., and participants aged 16 and up are invited to learn four embroidery methods: basic stitches, chicken scratch, cross stitch and silk ribbon. All supplies are included in the $47 cost.

Also, at Irving House, families are invited to drop in on Saturday, Feb. 9 for a Victorian valentine-making session. Participants of all ages can learn about old-time valentines and then make their own cards to send to a sweetheart. It’s by donation and it runs from 1 to 3 p.m. Irving House is at 302 Royal Ave.
