If you’re a fan of the written word, be sure to note a couple of upcoming events hosted by the Royal City Literary Arts Society.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, it’s the return of Tellers of Short Tales, the reading series that’s designed to introduce fans of the short story genre to both emerging and established writers in the field. It runs from 6 to 8 p.m.

This month’s presentation features Bill Arnott, a Vancouver author, poet and songwriter who’s the author of Gone Viking: A Travel Saga, Dromomania and Wonderful Magical Words. There’s also an open mic session, so you’re welcome to bring your own story to share – or just turn out to listen.

Then, on Thursday, Nov. 21, it’s the return of In Their Words: A Royal City Reading Series, in which writers share the work of their own favourite authors. It runs from 6 to 8 p.m.

For this session, Stephen Karr will read lyrical ballads by William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Isabella Mori will share the work of Japanese haiku poet Kobayashi Issa, and Janene White will read from the work of English author James Herriot. The writers also share a bit about what makes them love the work of their chosen author.

Both reading series are free, and the events happen on the fourth floor at the Anvil Centre, 777 Columbia St. See www.rclas.com for all the details.
