A re-envisioning of three classic Grimm’s fairy tales is onstage in the next Way Off-Broadway Wednesdays show at Heritage Grill.

Hearts and Stones, presented by Fabulist Theatre, is a retelling of three coming-of-age tales: Hansel & Gretel, Red Riding Hood and Snow White. It's onstage June 6 and 13.

“In the hands of playwright Mary Littlejohn, and voiced by six talented actors, with an unexpected twist on perspective – growing up has never been this dramatic,” a press release says.

Fabulist Theatre is the project of Littlejohn and Burnaby resident Damon Bradley Jang, who have a mission to create opportunities for diverse casts.

“There has been a shift in Vancouver theatre, where colour-blind casting is much more of a thing than it used to be, and we’re starting to see more diverse and imaginative casting choices onstage,” Littlejohn said in a press release. “We wanted to be part of that as well.”

Heritage Grill is at 447 Columbia St., New Westminster. Way Off-Broadway Wednesdays shows start at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Reserve a table at 604-759-0819 or just show up. Admission is on a pay-what-you-want basis.
