Love to draw? Want to learn more?

New Westminster residents are invited to join the Arts Council of New Westminster and River Market for Summer Sketching by the River.

Local artist and art teacher Sherida Charles will lead a series of free drawing classes for adults and teens throughout the month of August, offering drawing tips as participants capture the beauty and movement of the Fraser.

The classes will be offered for teens on Tuesdays and adults on Wednesdays. No experience is required, and students will get drawing tips that they can put into practice under the guidance of the instructor.

“This is a casual and fun class that will build on sketching skills participants already have or introduce them to a new creative outlet,” a press release says.

All supplies are provided, and no registration is required. You can choose to attend one class or all of them; a new technique will be taught each class.

Meet outside River Market (810 Quayside Dr.) and look for the arts council tent.

The teen classes are offered on Aug. 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 1 to 3 p.m. Adult classes are set for Aug. 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Participants can submit their river drawing for display and receive a Food Crawl Single (good for one dish from River Market’s Food Crawl menu).
