Pieces of the natural world have made their way to Plaskett Gallery for September.
For My Sanity and Yours, featuring art by Debra McKenzie, is on at the gallery from today (Tuesday, Sept. 3) to Friday, Sept. 27.
McKenzie creates her work from found objects, turning them into assemblages that are sandblasted, carved, burnished, waxed and painted in a variety of ways.
“In altering found objects, Debra sees herself simply assisting Mother Nature’s work and primarily drawing on inspiration from empirical sources,” says a press release about the show.
Her practice is also influenced by her interest in Indigenous arts and culture.
The Plaskett Gallery is at Massey Theatre, 735 Eighth Ave. To see McKenzie’s work, stop by the gallery any time during opening hours – 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, or during all Massey Theatre performances.
There’s also a special Tea Talk and Treats event on Thursday, Sept. 19 from 2 to 4 p.m.
