Fairytale fun for the whole family in this New West production

Vagabond Players and Capricorn Theatre Productions present Once Upon a Fairytale, onstage at Bernie Legge Theatre Nov. 29 to Dec. 15

The Vagabond Players are once again offering up holiday fun for all ages.

The New Westminster theatre company is teaming up with Capricorn Theatre Productions to present the musical Once Upon a Fairytale, onstage at the Bernie Legge Theatre from Nov. 29 to Dec. 15.

The show, written and directed by Lauren Trotzuk, is set “once upon a time in the magical Kingdom Whose Name Has Long Since Been Forgotten,” when four young heroes set out on a quest to discover what they long for most: love, belonging, self-worth and adventure.

The story revolves around the rebellious Princess Mirabella (Faith Johannesson), who’s hoping to escape an arranged marriage and meet her true love; the young merchant, Theron (Nik Trotzuk), who yearns to find a place where he truly belongs; the fiery Aaralyn (Julie Koebel), who has trained to be a warrior and is determined to prove she is worthy; and the young orphan, Garrett (Will Davis), who has resolved to leave his old life behind to pursue his dreams of adventure.

Meanwhile, in the confines of the kingdom, the evil Jacken (Karliana De Wolff) plans to take over the kingdom, and King Cortez and Queen Lilyanna (Kaden Burgart and Sarah Prato) are too busy tracking down the missing princess to notice the lurking danger.

Of course, there’s also a fairy godmother (Amara Gelaude) in the mix, with fairy recruits to help (Blossom Koh, Marlea Cleveland, MJ Arden, Cassidy Hryckiw and Stef Delisimunovic).

Joining them are Kelsey Robertson as the maid, Nicky Evans as Prince Henry, Julian Waldron as a marketplace thief and Robyn Young, Jason Lam and Emily MacKinnon as Jacken’s devilish minions.

The Bernie Legge Theatre is in Queen’s Park. Once Upon a Fairytale runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. There’s also a special Saturday matinee on Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $17 regular, or $15 for seniors and youth, with $12 tickets for the Nov. 29 preview.
