Explore tafoni rock formations in New West art exhibition

Explore the unique rock formations of B.C.’s coast in this new show at Queen’s Park.

New West residents can explore the unique tafoni rock formations of the B.C. coast in a new exhibition at the Gallery at Queen’s Park.

Tafoni: Coastal Influence, a group exhibition by Carolyn Sullivan, Denise Jeffrey, Ellen Pelto and Sande Waters, is on at the Arts New West gallery from Aug. 2 to 27.

“Some extraordinary places in nature can immediately connect us to the universe in a spiritual way. Tafoni, the natural sculptural rock formations located on many of the Gulf Islands of B.C., are such places,” said a press release from the gallery.

The four artists, who are from various parts of Canada, have all experienced the tafoni rock formations and use their various mediums to explore the erosion-based formations, patterns and textures.

The exhibition includes ceramics, sculpture, photography, painting, collage and mixed media.

Visitors can check out their work during gallery hours: Wednesdays through Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Saturday, Aug. 20, there will be an artist talk and presentation with all four artists from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by a reception from 3 to 5 p.m.

The Gallery at Queen’s Park is in Centennial Lodge (near the bandshell). Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
