What if Dave and Morley’s adventures weren’t quite so G-rated?

HappySad Theatre is bringing its hit from the 2017 Vancouver Fringe, Sex? But I’m Canadian!, to the stage at the Heritage Grill for the Way Off-Broadway Wednesdays series on May 30.

HappySad Theatre is Nico Dicecco and Kyle Carpenter, two “reformed academics” who now write and perform plays. Their new outing – formerly titled 50 Shades of Dave – was a runaway hit at the 2017 Vancouver Fringe Festival and is bound for Winnipeg, Montreal, Regina and Saskatoon this summer.

“Our top priority, next to honouring the spirit of The Vinyl Café, was to offer a sex-positive portrait of Dave and Morley,” Dicecco said in a press release. “We worked really hard to shape the stories so that they are celebrations of sexuality and human connection, even when Dave is causing calamity in the bedroom.”

The show features Dicecco’s “spot-on vocal impression” of one of CBC Radio’s most beloved broadcasters, the late Stuart McLean.

All Way Off-Broadway Wednesdays shows start at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. You can call ahead to reserve a table at 604-759-0819, or just show up. Admission is on a pay-what-you-want basis.

Heritage Grill is at 447 Columbia St. See www.facebook.com/wayoffwed for all the details.
