Who is B.C.’s funniest female? Find out at Lafflines at the end of this month.

Laughter Zone 101 is presenting the 2018 B.C.’s Funniest Female stand-up comedy competition at Lafflines June 28 and 29.

The event will feature an array of local women with less than 10 years of comedy experience. All types of comedy - including stand-up, improv, musical and story - are welcome in the competition.

"The event started out as a chance to give women more comedy stage time, so I feel increidbly honoured to be producing this event again," said Janice Bannister, founder of Laughter Zone 101, in a press release. "The lineup of comics we have signed up for the preliminary rounds is guaranteed to provide a wonderful evening filled with laugher, and the finals are always very exciting."

Thursday, June 28 will feature the preliminary rounds. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with Round 1 running from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Round 2 from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $16.

During the evening, audience members get to vote for their favourite comics, and their votes will be tabulated with the judges' votes. The audience alone will pick the Fan Favourite who will move on to the finals.

The grand finale event is on Friday, June 29, with doors opening at 7 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show. Tickets are $18.

Winners earn prize money and weekend club gigs, and the first-place winner gets a spot on the I Am Woman Hear Me Laff International Women's Day tour in 2019.

Lafflines Comedy Club is at 530 Columbia St. (at the Columbia Theatre). Tickets can be purchased through www.eventbrite.ca - and Bannister warns that all of the shows sell out.

"What can I say? Women are funny, and we want to get together and have a good laugh," she said.
