The award-winning Lions Gate Chorus continues to inspire and energize its audience even amid a world-wide pandemic.

The four-part a cappella chorus (show choir) is a member of Sweet Adelines International, a singing organization for women, and is the current world silver medalists.

Members are from all over the Greater Vancouver area and beyond including North Delta, Ladner, Tsawwassen, Surrey, South Surrey, White Rock, Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Langley, Kelowna, Kamloops, Penticton, Richmond, New Westminster, Burnaby, Maple Ridge, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Vancouver, West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Squamish, Vancouver Island, Washington State, Calgary and even Australia.

The chorus has not rehearsed or performed in person since the initial coronavirus lockdown back in early March. However, the Zoom platform has allowed members to meet regularly and now they have come together for a virtual performance of Rachel Platten’s Fight Song to provide inspiration amid the world’s many current challenges.

“Our world has challenged us and continues to challenge us in ways we’ve never seen before. When faced with these situations, we are tempted to turn inwards, towards the darkness. Or we can face outwards, searching for the sun and opening our arms to our community, explained chorus member Meghan Fell. "At Lions Gate Chorus we choose to do just that. In spite of the fact that we haven’t rehearsed together in person (in nearly 11 months), our desire to inspire, energize and encourage our audiences hasn’t waned. We knew (this song) the perfect vehicle for this message.

“The song’s lyrics remind us that we are stronger together, that even the smallest spark can start a fire and that the smallest act of kindness can send waves of love into motion. We choose to believe in love and community and that together we will come through this, galvanized and grateful for the things that truly matter.”

The performance can be seen on the YouTube platform.
