A new exhibition at the Plaskett Gallery was inspired by the colours of pencil crayons.
David Pacholko’s new work, The Laurentien Collection, is on display at the gallery from May 1 to 31.
Pacholko said his work was inspired by the colours of Laurentien pencil crayons and by a recent driving trip across Canada.
“Each canvas takes on a life of its own with a myriad of abstract shapes, textures, brush strokes and a vivid colour palette,” he said in an artist statement. “Each work represents a specific moment, simplified somewhat and reinterpreted with bold hues, dashes of brushwork and applications, and literally takes on an energy and direction of its own with no script, as it comes from within that moment.”
He noted that he doesn’t paint from a preliminary sketch or object.
“My works are guided by my intuition and love of colour and recapturing a fleeting moment or experience gone by,” he said.
Pacholko works as a public art artist and graphic designer with his own design studio, David James Design.
The Plaskett Gallery is at Massey Theatre, 735 Eighth Ave. It’s open 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and during performances (and one hour before performance time) at the theatre.
