Art is for everyone – and 100 Braid Street Studios is reaching out to make sure the whole community gets involved in art.
The New Westminster-based studio holds open studios on the first Saturday of the month, giving people of all ages a chance to tour the premises, visit artists in their on-site workspaces and check out the kind of work that’s being produced in the unique art studio – housed in an old former winery in an industrial area, which has been converted into a light and airy studio and venue space.
The studio’s artists include Judy Villett, Judith Copland, Iris Mes Low, Mardell Ramptom, Terra Varey, Victoria Klassen, Fiona Tang, Rachael Hatala (Laughing Sparrow Jewelry), Susan L. Greig, Michael King, Cliff Blank, Omanie Elias, Merina Paton (Mersea Jewelry), Karen Justice and Tony Durke. It also features classes by teachers Brenda Hatch, Wendy Meades and Carla Thompson.
The open studios are held from noon to 5 p.m., with refreshments, and people are invited in for the summer editions on Saturdays, July 1 and Aug. 5.
And, for those interested in getting their hands on a paint brush, 100 Braid Street also offers an ongoing series of paint and sip nights, where people of all skill and ability levels can enjoy snacks, beverages and painting instruction by a professional – emerging at the end of the night with their own work.
Each paint and sip night involves a different painting theme. Upcoming nights include Pacific Northwest Birch Trees on June 16, Summer Dock on July 14, Emily Carr Red Cedar on Aug. 16, Ocean Lighthouse on Aug. 18, Pacific Northwest Birch Trees on Aug. 23 and Ode to Emily Car on Aug. 25.
