A Democracy Cafe is taking place on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas College,

The Massey Victory Heights Residents’ Association is inviting community members to attend its annual neighbourhood block party.

The association is inviting residents (and their four-legged friends) to attend the event on Sunday, Sept. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Westburnco Park on Churchill Avenue – the grass area between Scott and William streets. The block party includes a barbecue, games, bungee joust, crafts, facepainting and a bocce tournament.

What does democracy mean to you?

Royal City residents are invited to share their thoughts on democracy at an upcoming Democracy Café.

The dialogue about democracy in Canada is taking place on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas College, room NE412 at 700 Royal Ave. The event is funded by the New Westminster Neighbourhood Small Grants program.
The goals of the event are to encourage ongoing citizen participation during and after elections, to create a platform for New Westminster citizens to come together and dialogue about democratic processes and to explore the various opportunities for citizen engagement. Following introductions and explanation about the Democracy Café, people will meet in small groups to discuss various questions and then share their insights with the rest of the group.

Is democracy in Canada being eroded? What are the elements of destructive political conflict? What are the elements of constructive political conflict? What are your values about democracy? These are just some of the possible questions that may be considered at the Democracy Café.

The Democracy Café is free, but space is limited. Register by contacting Angela Sealy at 604-522-1492 or [email protected].
