Year in review: Pattullo Bridge prevails

The Pattullo Bridge replacement project was the lone infrastructure project to be singled out by the B.C. NDP government in Tuessday's throne speech.

TransLink gave notice in September that the Pattullo Bridge would be vulnerable to major wind storms or seismic events and could face serious damage, suggesting it should be replaced no later than 2024.

Throughout the year, TransLink continued planning and consulting for a replacement for the aging structure between New Westminster and Surrey and undertook extensive repairs to extend its life. Despite its age, the Pattullo survived December without being closed – at a time when the Alex Fraser and Port Mann bridges had lane or partial closures because of ice bombs.
