New West seniors kicked-ass in all kinds of ways this year. We’ve singled out two.
On the one hand we had Jack Thomas who regularly puts in a full day’s work as a general clerk on the graveyard shift at the Royal Square Safeway at age 90.
Eschewing accommodations for his age, the nonagenarian is a great worker for any age, according to bosses and coworkers.
“Fifty-five? You are just a kid at 55. You’ve got a lot of living to do,” Thomas told the Record.
Not bad.
But this year the nod for this award goes to retired bookkeeper Dorothy Bickerstaff.
At age 92, the self-described “hobo” logs five or more miles a day collecting empties to return for money that she donates to charity.
Last year, she gave $1,200 to assorted charities. Neither a fractured hip nor tense showdowns with fellow bottle collectors has fazed her.
“After all these years, I should be intimidated?” she said.
