What's up in New West? Top Five weekend ideas for Feb. 28 to March 2

Food and physical fitness feature prominently in this weekend’s fun. We are continuing with our popular feature, The Record ’s Top Five (or More) Things to Do This Weekend and offer the following suggestions for the Feb. 28 to March 2 weekend: 1 .
Massey Theatre
Massey Theatre is set to be rebuilt when the New Westminster Secondary School replacement project gets underway.

Food and physical fitness feature prominently in this weekend’s fun. We are continuing with our popular feature, The Record’s Top Five (or More) Things to Do This Weekend and offer the following suggestions for the Feb. 28 to March 2 weekend:

1.  Check out men’s and women’s bodybuilders, who will take part in physique, figure, fitness and bikini categories at the Krack Klassic. The event takes place on Saturday, March 1 at Massey Theatre, with pre-judging getting underway at 9 a.m. and the evening showcase taking place at 6 p.m. Tickets are $29 for the morning session or $57.50 for the evening session. 2.  Get some fresh produce and tasty treats at the Royal City Farmers Market, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. About two dozen vendors will be selling fresh local produce, prepared foods and handmade crafts, live music and kids activities. The market is located at 810 Quayside Dr. and free parking is available in B Deck West of the Front Street parkade at 560 Columbia St.

3.  Enjoy the New Westminster Symphony Orchestra’s choral music concert, which features the Langley Children’s Choir. The show takes place on Sunday, March 2 at 2 p.m. at Massey Theatre, 735 Eighth Ave. Admission is by donation. 

4.  Help Rotary win the fight against polio in its Walk to End Polio Now. Starting at the Burnaby Metrotown parking lot, participants will walk to New Westminster City Hall, where a closing ceremony takes place at noon. The walk, which has a $10 registration fee, gets underway at 10 a.m. (registration is at 9 a.m.).

5.  Listen to RazzMaJazz at a new New Orleans-style jazz brunch that’s taking place on Sunday, March 2 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Heritage Grill.  Starting March 2, RazzMaJazz trio and special guests will perform at the new Sunday jazz brunches at 447 Columbia St. You’ll find more information about RazzMaJazz at www.razzmajazz.ca and about the Heritage Grill www.theheritagegrill.com.
