The weather forecast is calling for possible flurries on the weekend, but don't let that deter you from taking part in some awesome events in New Westminster this weekend.

The weather forecast is calling for possible flurries on the weekend, but don't let that deter you from taking part in some awesome events in New Westminster this weekend. We're continuing with our popular feature, The Record's Top 5 (or More) Things to Do This Weekend and offer the following suggestions for this weekend, Nov. 15 to 17.

1. Celebrate Canada Games Pool's 40th anniversary at a party featuring entertainment (including a dive demonstration from the platforms), a historical slide show, face painting, a balloon artist, tattoos, bubbles, goodie bags, popcorn, cotton candy - and a giant birthday cake that will be cut at 2:30 p.m. The party takes place on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 65 East Sixth Ave. The drop-in fee is $2 during the anniversary party.

2. Get a jump on your Christmas shopping - or treat yourself to something new - at the Herbert Spencer Christmas Craft Fair, which takes place on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale features a wonderful selection of handmade crafts and artwork, a bake sale, bistro and raffle. Admission is free. The event takes place at 605 Second St.

3. Discover the poetic talent in New Westminster when Silver Bow Publishing launches the Royal City Poets Anthology 2013. The launch, which is being hosted by Janet Kvammen and New Westminster poet laureate Candice James, takes place on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. in the Heritage Grill backroom, 447 Columbia St. Royal City Poets Anthology 2013 is the third instalment in the anthology series, and is the biggest yet with 40 poets and 129 pages. 4. Check out the amazing talents of artisans from New Westminster and beyond at the Artisan Market at River Market. Jewelry, quilting, books, beadwork, knitwear, paintings, stone carvings and other items will be among the items for sale by artisans. The market is taking place on Saturday, Nov. 16 from noon to 5 p.m. at River Market, 810 Quayside Dr.

5. Support mental health initiatives at the Douglas College Miles for Mental Health 2.5-kilometre walk and five-km run along the Millennium Trail in Queen's Park. The event, being held Saturday, Nov. 16 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., aims to raise awareness - and decrease stigma - about mental health. Music, entertainment, family activities, cupcake and cookie decorating and face painting are all part of the day's fun. The registration cost is $35 for adults and $5 for youth aged up to 12. 6. Savour soup at this weekend's Royal City Farmers Market, which is having a soup festival that features a soup demonstration, samples and recipes. Kids will be able to design their own "cup of soup" by picking out assorted ingredients and putting them in an envelope that they can take home and make their custom cup of soup. In addition to the soup-themed activities, visitors will be able to shop for produce, gourmet prepared foods and items from artisans at the farmers market that's taking place at River Market on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 810 Quayside Dr.
