Election Day is this weekend, so be sure to get out and vote for the citizens you want representing the city and school board for the next four years. We’ve got a few other suggestions for your weekend, including some entertainment options and some ways to support a couple of great causes. Here are The Record’s Top Five (or More) Things to Do This Weekend for Nov. 14 to 16.

1.  Get out and vote for the folks you’d like to serve as New Westminster’s next mayor, councillors and school trustees. Polling stations are open in venues around the city on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. For a list of all polling stations, visit the city’s website at www.newwestcity.ca and click on Your City Your Vote. (If you opt to vote at the River Market polling station, you’ll be able to pick up some goodies – including fresh apples – as it’s where the Royal City Farmers Market winter market runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

2.  Attend the book launch of Silver Bow Publishing’s Royal City Poets Anthology 2014. It’s taking place on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Heritage Grill back room, 447 Columbia St. Candice James, Janet Kvammen and Kyle McKillop are hosts of the event, which features a book reading by contributors and an open mike.

3.  Check out Good For Grapes and Jordan Klassen, who are the headliners at this year’s Momentum Youth Arts Festival concert on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at Massey Theatre. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door, and are available at www.ticketsnw.ca. Momentum Youth Arts Festival features a variety of arts and cultural events for youth until Nov. 21. Full details are available at www.momentumyouthartsmovement.com.

4.  Support the Simon Fraser branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association in the Douglas College Miles for Mental Health 2.5 and five-kilometre walk/run in Queen’s Park. The event gets underway at 8:30 a.m. and includes fun activities and entertainment. To register or donate, visit www.mental
healthrun.ca.

5.  Don your holiday apparel and take part in the Jingle Bell Walk and Run for Arthritis. Participants are invited to wear their liveliest holiday-themed costume or ugly sweater and join their friends, families and four-legged friend for a one- or five-kilometre route around the Inn at the Quay on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. For more information, visit www.jbwr.ca or call 604-714-5550.
