Whether you’re in the mood to get moving or to take it easy this weekend, you’re in luck. Here are The Record’s Top Five Things to Do This Weekend for Jan. 16 to 18.

1.  Experience a night of music at the Open Mike Night at the Queensborough Community Centre. The free event aims to be a night for musicians and non-musicians alike to gather and experience classic and modern hits played with a twist. Interested? Check it out of Friday, Jan. 16 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Queensborough Community Centre, 920 Ewen Ave. For more information about the open mike sessions, call 604-525-7388.

2.  Dance the night away at Union Jack Public House when James Blond, a pop-rock party band, plays on Friday, Jan. 16 and Saturday, Jan. 17. Located at 525 Seventh St., Union Jack Public House is open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

3.  Enjoy a family skate at Moody Park Arena on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The skate costs $4.25 for adults and $2 for kids. The arena is at 701 Eighth Ave.

4.  Drop by the New Westminster Public Library to check out the first art exhibition of 2015. In the upstairs gallery, 19 members of the New Westminster Photography Club are presenting8 x 10 x 19, which includes an eclectic selection of photos ranging for close-up of a hummingbird to sweeping landscapes to art photography. Students in grades 1 to 5 are featured in the Young Creative Minds exhibit in the ramp gallery on the main floor. Students of artist Shavon Chen show their imagination and talent, especially in 3D plasticine art.

5.  Kick start a healthy new year at health and fitness seminars being put on by Zhoosh Fitness Garage on Sunday, Jan. 18 from 3 to 4 p.m. Registered holistic nutritionist Tanuja Dabir, a nutritional consultant at New Westminster Wellness Centre Inc., will speak about getting the year off to a healthy start with the right diet.  The event, being held at Zhoosh Fitness Garage at #110-131 11th St., includes refreshments by Rain City Juicery and door prizes. Registration and tickets ($10) are required and available through Eventbrite.ca – just search for Zhoosh Fitness.
