History, charity and community events galore – it’s all happening this weekend in New West. Here are the Record's top picks for June 19 to 21.

1.  Celebrate National Aboriginal Day at Anvil Centre on Friday, June 19 from noon to 4 p.m. The celebration includes cultural resource tables, arts and crafts, food for purchase, West Coast dancing performance and presentations by the Git Hayetsk Dancers, a Powwow dancing performance and Presentation by Tyler Jacobs and Carmen Littlejohn and drum group Oceanside Dakota. The event is being hosted by the Spirit of the Children Society, the City of New Westminster and Anvil Centre.

2.  Join in on the fun at the Queensborough Children’s Festival on Saturday, June 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Queensborough Community Centre, 920 Ewen Ave. The free annual event includes entertainment, craft stations, interactive play, food and more. Royal City Farmers Market will be on site, as well.

3.  Shred all your own paperwork at the New Westminster Firefighters’ Charitable Society’s annual shred-athon. The shred-athon is taking place on Saturday, June 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Canada Games pool Parking lot, 65 East Sixth Ave. In addition to having your documents shredded on site by a professional shredder, you can enjoy a barbecue, popcorn, entertainment and more. Donations will be accepted for the New Westminster Firefighters Charitable Society, with funds a variety of organizations around town.

4.  Search for treasures at the Glenbrooke North Residents’ Association’s 16th annual garage sale on Saturday, June 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine. 5.  Drive a Ford for New Westminster Secondary School’s 2015 grads at a fundraiser being held on Saturday, June 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the high school parking lot at 835 Eighth St. (the Eighth Street lot). Each test drive raises $20 for the 2015 grad class. The event also includes a car wash, as well as mini donuts and the Tasty Torpedo Sandwich Co. food truck. 6.  Drop by Anvil Centre and check out Hair Apparent: A Hairy History of New Westminster, the spring exhibition at the New Westminster Museum. The exhibition, which takes a look at the city’s hair salon and barber history, will wrap up on June 21. Along with lots of exhibits from local hairdressers and bar-bers, the exhibition also includes interviews with the city’s hair professionals about their profession. The museum is located in Anvil Centre at 777 Columbia St. and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on Thursdays till 8 p.m. Admission is by donation.

7.  Check out the creations of local artisans at the Artisan Fair at River Market on Saturday, June 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This week’s fair features ethical fashions form Indonesia, handmade soaps from Abbey Lane Farm, custom-covered journals and more. River Market is located at 810 Quayside Dr.
