Music, comedy, inspiration and more – you’ll find it all in New Westminster this weekend. Here are the Record’s top picks for weekend fun from Feb. 20 to 22.

1.  Enjoy a musical performance by New West cellist Kevin Park and other musicians with Bridge Musicians International, who are performing Brahms and Schumann piano quartets in the Music at Queens concert series. It’s taking place on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Queens Avenue United Church, 529 Queens Ave. Parking is available one half block down the hill at city hall. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors/students and $10 for children, and are available at the door or online at www.queensavenue.org. For more info about the musicians, visit www.bridgemusicians.com.

2.  Get inspired at PechaKucha New West Volume 8 – the global edition, in which about a hundred similar events are taking place around the world on Friday, Feb. 21. Drop by the food hall at River Market starting at 6:30 p.m. and mingle and chat with other guests (and purchase dinner from Longtail Kitchen or Re-Up BBQ and enjoy beer from Steel & Oak Brewing, if you’re so inclined) before presentations get underway at 8 p.m. PechaKucha features speakers on a range of topics.  The event was sold out at press time, but if you don’t yet have a ticket, you can still waitlist yourself – see www.pechakucha.org/cities/new-westminster. River Market is located at 810 Quayside Dr.

3.  Yuk it up with comedian David Alan Grier when he takes to the stage at Lafflines Comedy Club. Grier (of In Living Color fame) follows up his Feb. 19 show with weekend shows on Friday, Feb. 20 (8 and 10:30 p.m.) and Saturday, Feb. 21(7 and 10 p.m.) at 530 Columbia St. For tickets, visit www.lafflines.com.

4.  Support Homeless Seniors in the Coldest Night of the Year, a fundraiser being hosted by Seniors Services Society. The fun, family walk of two, five or 10 kilometres takes place on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 5 to 8 p.m., with all walks starting and finishing at River Market. Registration gets underway at 4 p.m. and the opening ceremony is at 5 p.m. The goal is to raise $25,000 to help house homeless and at-risk seniors in Metro Vancouver. For more information, visit www.coldestnightoftheyear.org/location/newwestminster.

5.  Check out a diverse look at city life that’s on display at the New Westminster Public Library until Feb. 28. Visual historian Katherine Freund-Hainsworth is displaying Main Streets Revisited, which gives a historical view of main street New Westminster through mixed-media art accompanied by written history.

In the ramp gallery, Katherine and Richard Klyne are displaying some of their photographs of cityscapes, including the world’s tallest tin soldier and some florals. The art can be viewed anytime the library is open at 716 Sixth Ave.

6.  Celebrate heritage week by taking a heritage walking tour in one of the city’s neighbourhoods. The city’s website offers walking tours that you can download for the Brow of the Hill, Downtown, Sapperton and Queen’s Park neighbourhoods. Go to www.newwestcity.ca and search “heritage walking tours” to find details.
