The Poppy Project display is one of several events happening in New West in honour of Remembrance Day.

1. Commemorate members of the armed forces at Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place in New Westminster on Saturday, Nov. 11. The Royal Westminster Regiment’s ceremony takes place at 9:45 a.m. (but doors open at 8:30 a.m. and close as soon as the building is full) in the Armoury at 530 Queens Ave. and the City of New Westminster’ event takes place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the cenotaph in front of city hall, 511 Royal Ave.

2. Check out all the hard work of folks involved in the Poppy Project, which is on display at River Market until Friday, Nov. 10 and then at Royal City Centre from Saturday, Nov. 11 to Monday, Nov. 13. The blanket, featuring hundreds of handmade poppies, will be part of a Remembrance Day display that includes items from The Royal Westminster Regiment Historical Society and Museum.

3. Enjoy an evening of Johnny Cash and June Carter tunes at Ring of Fire, a Cash and Carter tribute show starring Tony Barton and Tracy Neff. It’s taking place on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Anvil Centre, 777 Columbia St. Tickets are $25 to $35, plus service charges, and are available at www.ticketsnw.ca.

4. Celebrate Union Jack Public House’s fourth anniversary when Eagle Eyes returns on Friday Nov. 10 with their tribute to the Eagles and The Hip Show performs its tribute to the Tragically Hip on Saturday, Nov. 11. The pub, located at 525 Seventh St., has a $10 cover charge after 8 p.m. for these shows.

5. Immerse yourself in the beauty of “the random and the discarded” at Introspection, the latest exhibition at the Plaskett Gallery at Massey Theatre. The exhibition, featuring works by Russian-Canadian visual artist Tatiana A. Bobko, runs until Nov. 30. The Plaskett Gallery is located in the Massey Theatre complex at 735 Eighth Ave. and is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, or during performances at the Massey Theatre or by appointment.
