1. Celebrate Fire Prevention Week at the New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services’ 2017 open house on Sunday, Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors to the Glenbrook fire hall (corner of Sixth Avenue and McBride Boulevard) will enjoy presentations and information on a variety of topics, live demonstrations, equipment displays, a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog and a by-donation barbecue put on by the New Westminster Firefighters' Charitable Society.
2. Dig into some fun at the Glenbrook Ravine: Native Planting Extravaganza, where volunteers will plan native species and install bird houses. 3. Explore the city’s cultural diversity at Home Cabaret, featuring dancers, opera singers, circus performers, musicians, poets and drag queens at the Anvil Centre Theatre on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. The event is free and includes a pre-show chat at 6 p.m. and a post-show social.
4. Pop into The Gallery at Queen’s Park and check out the Arts Council of New Westminster’s newest exhibition which celebrates the talents of its volunteers. Contribution runs until Oct. 29. The gallery, located in Centennial Lodge in Queen’s Park, is open Wednesdays from 1 to 8 p.m. and Thursdays through Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.
5. Tune in to the first Music at Queens concert of the season when British violinist Kerenza Peacock joins the West Coast Symphony for the performance at Queens Avenue United Church on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is by donation.
