Entertainment options abound this weekend in New Westminster, so there’s no reason to stay at home. We are continuing with our popular feature, The Record’s Top Five (or More) Things to Do This Weekend and offer the following suggestions for May 30 to June 1.

1.  Test drive a new car and help John Robson Elementary School raise funds for field trips, supplies and the playground at the new Qayqayt Elementary. You’ll also get a chance to meet former Canuck goalie Kirk McLean (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and enjoy some family friendly activities at the fundraiser that takes place on Saturday, May 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 pm. at École John Robson School, 120 Eighth St. You can test drive a new Ford for free – and Ford will donate $20 to the school’s parent advisory council, or you can pay $5 for a ride in a vintage Bugatti.

2.  Check out the final dayof Nature’s Enchantment exhibition at the Arts Council of New Westminster Gallery, which features works by artist Robert Jess Marshall. He has an impressionistic style that features shimmering, vibrant colours and rich textures. The final day of the exhibit is Saturday, May 31, when the gallery (located in Centennial Lodge in Queen’s Park) is open from 1 to 5 p.m.

3.  Remember special moments when the Maple Leaf Singers take to the Massey Theatre stage for Rock, Roll and Remember this weekend. Be taken back in time as the Maple Leaf Singers perform chart toppers from the 1940s to 1980s and a tribute to Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. Performances take place on Saturday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20  or 10 for children 12 and under, and are available at 604-521-5050 or [email protected].

Her two performances will feature figures that she weaves out of a loop of string. Intrigued? Drop by River Market at 810 Quayside Dr. on Sunday, June 1, where she’ll perform at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The shows are free, and there’s no need to pre-register for this show that’s suitable for kids aged four and up.

5.  Stop by the Queen’s Park petting farm and say hello to the critters in its care this summer. Goats, rabbits and other creatures are a hit among young and old alike. The petting farm is located next to the playground in Queen’s Park.

6.  Get a jump on summerand join UFCW at its Family Picnic in the Park at Queen’s Park on Sunday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. UFCW will be serving up hot dogs (meat and veggie), drinks, popcorn and freezies.  The event includes old-fashioned sack races, beanbag toss, hula hooping, face painting, music and more.
