Amy Zeng celebrated her 7th birthday at Sapperton Day in 2011. This year's street festival is set for June 8 on East Columbia Street.

While you’re bound to want to get outside and take advantage of the weekend’s sunny skies (at least that’s what’s being forecast), we’ve got some other suggestions for the weekend. We are continuing with our popular feature, The Record’s Top Five (or More) Things to Do This Weekend and offer the following suggestions for June 6 to 8.

1.  Enjoy some family-friendly fun at St. Aidan’s Presbyterian Church’s block party and silent auction. The event, taking place on Saturday, June 7 from 2 to 6 p.m., includes a bouncy castle, popcorn, cotton candy, silent auction and music, as well as hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages by donation. St. Aidan’s is located at 1320 Seventh Ave.

2.  Get into the gospel spirit at the Rhythm of Gospel benefit concert on Saturday, June 7 at the Calvary Worship Centre. The concert is presented by the National Congress of Black Women Foundation, in partnership with the Guyanese Canadian Cultural Association of B.C. and the Jamaican Canadian Cultural Association of B.C. Doors open at 260 12th St. at 5:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. For information or tickets, call 604-527-0477, 604-605-0124, 778-882-1852 or 778-239-6624.

3.  Check out the latest production of The Golden Age Theatre, when the group performs Summer Capers. Shows take place on Friday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Century House, 620 Eighth St. Tickets are $10 for non-members and $8 for members.

4.  Hit the street for the annual Sapperton Day Street Festival, a popular community event that includes street performers, musical groups, bouncy castles, clowns, games, a rock-climbing wall, a marketplace more. It’s all happening on Sunday, June 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on East Columbia Street, between Braid and Sherbrooke streets.

5.  Drop by Moody Park Arena or Queen’s Park Arena and check out the John Witt Memorial Bellies Bowl, a lacrosse tournament for novice players. Who knows – you might see a future Wayne Goss or Geordie Dean when youngsters from around the province take to the floor in the June 6 to 8 tournament.
