Take time to enjoy the last weekend of spring by checking out some of the happenings around town.
River Market
Construction around River Market has caused some headaches for folks trying to find parking or access the market. A delegation plans to appear before council Monday night to seek help in dealing with their concerns.

Take time to enjoy the last weekend of spring by checking out some of the happenings around town. We are continuing with our popular feature, The Record’s Top Five (or More) Things to Do This Weekend and offer the following suggestions for June 13 to 15.

1.  Enjoy a day with the family at River Market, which is home to a summer market on Saturday, June 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event includes local vendors, face painting for kids and live entertainment. River Market is located at 810 Quayside Dr.

2.  Treat dad to a day on the river with the Paddlewheeler Riverboat Tours’ Father’s Day barbecue and river cruise. The Father’s Day brunch has sold out, but some space is still available for the two-and-a-half hour evening cruise that includes a barbecue. For tickets and information, visit www.vancouverpaddlewheeler.com.

3.  Dance like no one’s watching at Ecstatic Dance New West’s “conscious freestyle” dance event, which runs Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. at Ammara Dance Studio in downtown New West. Adults of all ages and abilities are invited to take part in the event, which begins with meditative music, picks up with faster and more high-energy pieces and winds down. Tickets are $15 and available through eventbrite.ca or at the door. For information, visit [email protected].

4.  Get up to date about the City of New Westminster’s update to the official community plan at a workshop taking place on Saturday, June 14 from 1 to 4 m. at the Queensborough Community Centre. The travelling community workshop is kicking off the process, and community members are invited to drop by this weekend’s event, which takes place at 920 Ewen Ave.

5.  Take a few minutes to vote for the Best in New West and you could win a $750 shopping spree at Royal City Centre. The Readers’ Choice 2014 ballots can be found today’s and recent issues of The Record and must be submitted by Monday, June 16. Vote for the best services, shopping and dining and entertainment services around town.
