There are plenty of musical offerings (and some other things too) to enjoy in New Westminster this weekend. We are continuing with our popular feature, The Record’s Top Five (or More) Things to Do This Weekend and offer the following suggestions for July 25 to 27.

1.  Try out some new moves at TGIF Dancing in the Square on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Hyack Square. Instructors from Dance With Me Studios will provide instruction at the event, which is held in the plaza on Columbia Street at the foot of Eighth Street.

2.  Groove to the tunes of Playlist, who perform disco, country, funk, ‘70s, ‘80s and current hits – and more. They’re performing at the Gateway Grill at Starlight Casino on Friday and Saturday night starting at 9 p.m. Starlight Casino is located at 350 Gifford St. in Queensborough.

3.  Listen to some great musicat the annual 12th Street Music Festival, which features music on four stages, a petting zoo, children’s arts and crafts, food and much more. It’s all happening on Sunday, July 27 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on 12th Street, between Sixth and 10th avenues.

4.  Get into the beat at the drum circle with Russell Chumsky on Sunday, July 27 from 12 to 2 p.m. at River Market. Chumsky will lead participants in community free-form drumming. Whether you’ve played the drums or not, you’re welcome to attend. River Market is located at 810 Quayside Dr.

5.  Snap some photos and show everyone how beautiful New Westminster can be. The city is holding the Our City photo contest, with the top three photos winning a canvas print of the image and inclusion in the city’s official community plan. Go explore the city with your camera and take photos of the best view, gardens, parks, buildings and places that make you proud of Our City. Entries must be submitted to the city in digital format by Monday, Aug. 4 . For contest details, visit www.newwestcity.ca.
