1. Check out some great indie music, food trucks, family entertainment and more at Uptown Live 2016. The festival returns to New West on Saturday, July 23 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Sixth and Sixth.
2. Get inspired at Pecha Kucha New West, where presenters will share their interests and passions in presentations featuring 20 images for 20 seconds. Pecha Kucha is heading uptown for Volume 12, which is on Friday, July 22 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Royal City Centre. Tickets are $7.50 and available at www.eventbrite.ca.
3. Help pretty up a grey wall with artwork at the Paint New West Beautiful event taking place on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Community members are invited to help transform a wall on the Moody Park washroom into a work of art created by artist Mari Posa. All supplies will be provided and everyone is welcome to attend this family-friendly event – no painting or art experience is necessary.
4. Enjoy an afternoon of fun activities for the whole family at the Victoria Hill Community Day. Hosted by the Queen’s Park Healthcare Foundation, the free event includes old-fashioned bicycles and a bike parade, a barbecue, a water balloon toss, Glitter Girl face painting and a visit from Korki the Clown. It’s taking place on Sunday, July 24 from noon to 2:30 p.m. at Woodlands Memorial Park, 315 McBride Blvd.
5. Pack some chairs or a blanket (and some snacks if you’d like) and check out this week’s feature at the Summer Movie Series in Queen’s Park Stadium: Guardians of the Galaxy. The movie is free and takes place at dusk (usually around 9 p.m.) If the weather is iffy, call 604-515-3775 to confirm the movie is on.
6. Learn about the role of industry over the last 70 years at the Our Working Waterfront walking tour that’s open to people aged 19 and older. The tour, which runs from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, begins at the tin soldier next to River Market and ends at Steel & Oak Brewing Company, where guests can carry on the conversation about the working waterfront.
