1.  Dance, paint, bowl or belly dance – you can do it all, and more, at the Seniors’ Festival. This year’s event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Anvil Centre, 777 Columbia St. You’ll be able to try out free recreational and cultural drop-in activities, expand your knowledge at some free information workshops, listen to a panel discussion about creating dementia-friendly cities; and hear what Dr. Art Hister has to say. 2.  Pick up a pumpkin at Realtor Derrick Thornhill’s annual pumpkin patch in Queen’s Park. The event, which raises funds for Monarch Place transition home for women and children fleeing violence, includes hot chocolate, coffee and timbits courtesy of the Tim Hortons community cruiser, pumpkin carving, a colouring contest, popcorn, grab bags – and a chance to pick out a pumpkin. It’s taking place at the Queen’s park picnic shelter on Saturday, Oct. 18 from noon to 3 p.m.

3.  Spend an afternoon with some talented seniorsat the second annual Seniors Have Talent show at the Sapperton Pensioners Hall. This year’s talent features musicians, singers, a magician, a comedian – and much more. The talent show is taking place on Sunday, Oct. 19 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at 318 Keary St. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors 55-plus and students, and free for children five and under. They’re available at the door or at the Seniors Festival on Saturday. For information, call 604-522-0280.

4.  Hop on down to River Market for Wort Day at the Quay, where eight different home brewers from Brew Westminster will be making eight different batches for public brewing demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the south patio (facing the river) of River Market. In the evening, Barley’s Homebrewing Supplies and River Market present Hoptoberfest starting at 6:30 p.m. inside the food hall, but this event has sold out since the print edition of The Record went to press.

5.  Yuk it up at Lafflines, where Canadian comic Eddie Della Siepe performs on Friday, Oct. 17 at 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 18 at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Della Siepe, star on MuchMusic’s Video On Trial Show, has also performed at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal and placed second in the 2011 Great Canadian Laugh Off. 6.  Plan ahead for next week’s New West DocFest, which showcases award-winning documentaries. The festival, which runs Wednesday, Oct. 22 to Friday, Oct. 24 at Landmark Cinemas, includes screening of Just Eat It, Monsoon, Finding Vivian Meier, Overnighter andBoyhood.
