Santa has come and gone, but there’s still lots to do in New West. We are continuing with our popular feature, The Record’s Top Five (or More) Things to Do This Weekend. Here are our suggestions for Dec. 26 to 28.

1.  Relive the ‘80s with March Hare, who will be performing at Starlight Casino’s Gateway Grill on Friday, Dec. 26 and Saturday, Dec. 27 at 9 p.m. Their rock and New Wave sets include ACDC to ZZ Top – and lots in between. Starlight Casino is at 350 Gifford Way in Queensborough.
2.  Enjoy some seasonal poetry at this weekend’s Poetic Justice, which takes place on Sunday, Dec. 28 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the backroom at the Heritage Grill, 447 Columbia St. This week’s Poetic Justice includes a special holiday season open mike. Info: www.poeticjustice.ca.
3.  Take a break from the hectic holiday pace and enjoy some quiet time at Westminster Pier Park. While the forecast called for a mix of sunshine and showers on the weekend, there’s always something happening on the river. Grab a hot beverage at River Market and head outside for some fresh air.
4.  Check out Biometric, the latest exhibit in the new media gallery at Anvil Centre. While you’re at New West’s newest facility, why not drop by the New Westminster Museum and the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame? All of the facilities are open on Saturday, Dec. 27 and Sunday, Dec. 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 777 Columbia St.
5.  Surf the net and finalize your plans for ringing in the New Year. There’s all sorts of events happening around New West on New Year’s Eve, including a riverboat cruise with Paddlewheeler Riverboat Tours, a night of comedy and dancing at Lafflines, a New Year’s Party at the Gateway Grill at the Starlight Casino, a dinner event at Wild Rice, and events at many of the city’s watering holes.
