There’s lots to do in New West on the first weekend of fall, including Homecoming and RiverFest. Here are the Record’s Top 5 suggestions for Sept. 25 and 26.

1.  Take the kids to Hamelin: A New Fable, a musical adventure, live-action play with a message about “keeping your word.” The ArtStarts at River Market performance, featuring musicians, actors and puppeteers with the Axis Theatre Company, takes place on Sunday, Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to noon at River Market, 810 Quayside Dr.

2.  Join in on the celebrations of Homecoming 2015, when the New Westminster Secondary School Hyacks’ varsity football team takes on the G.W. Graham Grizzlies from Chilliwack. Homecoming takes place on Friday, Sept. 25 at Mercer Stadium pregame action gets underway at 4:30 p.m. with a flag football challenge for Hyack alumni, and family fun such a bouncy castle, football toss and a tug of war competition featuring teams from city hall and the school district starts at 4 p.m. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks will take place following the game.

3.  Celebrate B.C. and World Rivers Day at RiverFest on New Westminster’s beautiful riverfront. The family-friendly festival includes art, live music, interactive activities, an art market, exhibits, tours of the Fraser River and the Lucille Johnstone work board parade. 4.  Drop by Pink Ribbon Bakery, which is hosting its annual Cake Sale for the Cure from on Sunday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 306 Sixth St. Vegan and gluten-free options will be available and there will be tons of prizes, live music, face painting and more. One-hundred per cent of the sales goes directly to Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

5.  Snap to it and head to Anvil Centre for Photo Graphie, a professional photography festival taking place in New West from Sept. 25 to 28. The festival, a mix of free and ticketed events, includes 16 photography and video speakers, a free gallery exhibition, a B.C. image competition and awards and much more. Connect with performing artists at the first Great Pairings event on Sunday, Sept. 27 from 3 to 5 p.m. at River Market. Massey Theatre is assembling artists who will be traveling into neighbourhood locales to share snippets of performances that will take to the Massey Theatre stage for a galas performance on Oct. 4.
