The holiday spirit is in full swing in the Royal City with entertainment and shopping options galore. Here are The Record’s Top Five (or More) Things to do This weekend for Dec. 12 to 14.
1. Check out the entries in this year’s Festival of Trees,which are found in River Market and Anvil Centre. River Market is home to several trees that have been decorated by local schools, while Anvil Centre features some trees submitted by local businesses. The Festival of Trees runs until Dec. 25. Be sure to vote for your favourite school tree at www.festivaloftreesnewwest.ca.
2. Have a laugh at the Vagabond Players’ presentation of Christmas Belles, a fun production for the festive season by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. The show runs Wednesdays to Saturdays until Dec. 20 at 8 p.m. at the Bernie Legge Theatre in Queen’s Park. 3. Shop for some unique offeringsat the Spirit of the Season at the Van Dop Gallery on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery has a collection of festive items, handcrafted cards, artisan food products, hand-pressed soaps, fine art and much more. You’ll find the in-home gallery at 421 Richmond St.
4. Enjoy some holiday music at Holy Trinity Cathedral when its choir teams up with the Royal Westminster Regimental Band on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the cathedral at 514 Carnarvon St. Tickets are by donation at the door.
5. Pick up some giftsat the Brewery District Christmas gift and craft fair, which features local crafters and vendors. The event is taking place on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sapperton Pensioners Hall (318 Keary St.), which will be festively decorated for the occasion.
6. Take a break from the hustle and bustleof the holiday season at the Poetic Justice event taking place on Sunday, Dec. 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Heritage Grill’s backroom, 447 Columbia St. Renee Saklikar is the host for this week’s event. For more information, visit www.poeticjustice.ca.
