The Last Blast of Summer is one of the Record's top picks for the Labour Day long weekend in New West.

1. Enjoy the third annual Last Blast of Summer at Royal City Community Church, on Saturday, Sept. 2 from noon to 3 p.m. The event, being held at 601 Eighth Ave., includes pony rides, the Inner Ring Circus, a visit from the Tumblebus and more.

2. Check out the Safe & Sound Music Fest 2017 on Sunday, Sept. 3 from noon to 10 p.m. at Westminster Pier Park. The festival features a hip hop and R&B-focused lineup including Majid Jordan, DVSN, Jessie Reyezz and K-Os. Tickets are $65 to $95 (free for kids 10 and under) and are available at safeandsoundfest.com. Take note, this is the first ticketed event being offered at Westminster Pier Park since it opened, so the eastern half of the park (Festival Lawn and Timber Wharf, including the urban beach, volleyball courts and WOW Westminster) is available to event ticket holders only. (Everyone is able to access the portion of the park west of the washroom/concession building.)

3. Hit the dance floor at the Union Jack Public House and Carvery, when Dance Mob performs hits on Friday and Saturday night. On Sunday night, David James and Big River perform a tribute to Johnny Cash ($10 cover after 8 p.m.) The Union Jack is at 525 Fifth St.

5. Shop at the New West Craft summer boardwalk market, which features items by crafters, artisans and makers. It’s on Saturday, Sept. 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at River Market, 810 Quayside Dr.
