Support street cats and dogs in Guatemala at a fundraiser taking place on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Galbraith House, 131 Eighth St. The event includes musical entertainment by Flashback, appetizers by Russell Pohl of Mr. Mom’s Catering, and live and silent auctions – with 100 per cent of proceeds helping street animals in Guatemala. 5. Attend this weekend’s family-friendly environmental event at Glenbrook Ravine, where volunteers will prepare the site for planting of native species in October. This ongoing initiative includes refreshments, socialization breaks and a chance to help restore the ravine. It’s taking place on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Glenbrook Ravine. You can walk along the ravine’s path and find the volunteers and you’re invited to stay for as little or as long as you like.
6. Listen to some live music at Uptown Unplugged. Porteau Music is scheduled to perform outside Westminster Centre, 555 Sixth St., on Saturday, Aug. 25, while Ranj Singh is set to play at Royal City Centre, 610 Sixth St., on Sunday, Aug. 26. Both performances run from noon to 2 p.m.
