1. Take in a New Westminster tradition when the Hyack International Parade returns to the streets of New West on Saturday, May 25. Heartland star and New West native Graham Wardle is the parade marshal for the big event, which gets underway at 11 a.m. at Sixth Street and Eighth Avenue, before making its way down Sixth Street to Queens Avenue and continuing along Queens Avenue.

Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the New Westminster Heritage Homes Tours on Sunday, May 26 from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m., when you’ll be able to tour 11 spectacular venues, enjoy guided tours of the Ballet House, take a 45-minute guided walking tour and enjoy all the festivities (including a beer and wine tasting, and food trucks, and a women’s exhibit) at the tour hub in Tipperary Park. Head to Century House to enjoy Sunshine Place, Golden Age Theatre’s latest production that centres around a residence for independent seniors, where staff and residents handle some unusual situations. It’s being performed on Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 25 at 1 p.m. (doors open 30 minutes before showtime). 4. Entry is by donation, with half of the day’s proceeds going to a swing project at Lord Kelvin Elementary School.
7. Bring your rakes, shoves and clippers to Queensborough and take part in the Spring Blackberry Knockout shoreline cleanup. It’s on Sunday, May 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants (who can enjoy refreshments and win prizes) should wear gloves, boots and weather-appropriate clothing, and meet at Thompsons Landing Park at South Dyke Road and Dockside Court.
