Don’t delay: Time’s almost up to apply for a community grant from the City of New Westminster.

The intake for the city’s small grants program closes at midnight on Monday, April 24.

“Up to $3,500 in cash funding is available for community events through this program as well,” said Lisa Kemp, the city’s program coordinator of special events. “The event must take place in New Westminster, be organized by a non-profit organization and be a first time event that has not received funding through the city’s grant program.”

Events must also take place after July 15. Information is available online at www.newwestcity.ca/grants.

“Community organizations are vital to the livability and vitality of our community. They deliver essential, creative and innovative programs, services, supports, facilities, and engagement opportunities to and for the people of New Westminster,” said a notice about the grant program. “Through this community grant program, the city will recognize and facilitate this valuable work as an essential component of achieving the city’s vision of: a vibrant, compassionate, sustainable city that includes everyone.”

This could be funny

Need to add more laughter to your life? This could help.

Century House is offering a “wellness humour challenge” that’s designed to challenge folks to enjoy humour in their daily lives.

“If you like learning about how laughter and connection is good for your physical health and your brain health, this is the class for you,” said a notice about the program. “Currently brain research shows the best ways to stimulate the brain are by doing something new and connecting with other people. This class will help you do that.”

The program includes six 1.5-hour sessions over three weeks, with Zoom classes being offered on Tuesdays (April 25, May 2, and May 9 – 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) and live sessions at Century House on Thursdays (April 27, May 4, and May 11 – 12:30 to 2 p.m.)
