What's going on this weekend?

If variety is the spice of life, it's shaping up to be a spicy weekend in the Royal City. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend.

If variety is the spice of life, it's shaping up to be a spicy weekend in the Royal City. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. We have some unique and fun offerings for this weekend in New Westminster.

1 Live out your dream of joining the circus - right here in the Royal City. The Vancouver Circus School is launching a new family circus drop-in that's open to adults and children aged four and up. Participants will work together and share the thrill of the circus at these drop-ins, which run every Saturday in the summer from 11 a.m. to noon. The first dropin takes place tomorrow (Saturday), and advance registration is available by calling 604-544-5024.

2 Check out the Terminal City Rollergirls in action when Public Frenemy take on The Riot Girls at the Royal City Curling Club. The Terminal City Rollergirls has more than 60 members on four teams. The Royal City Curling Club is located at 75 East Sixth Ave. Doors open at 5 p.m. and admission is $10 at the door (or free for kids under five).

3 Help the United Empire Loyalists Association of Canada celebrate the first B.C. Loyalist Day on Sunday, July 22 from 11: 30 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m. at Queen's Park. Residents are invited to bring a picnic lunch, watch the unfurling of the Loyalist flag and hear a proclamation from the provincial government, which has proclaimed July 22, 2012 as Loyalist Day in B.C.

4 Get entertained with a twist on a Shakespeare classic when Shadows & Dreams Theatre Company performs The Tempest (this time in a fantastical, tropical setting) at Queen's Park bandshell. The free production gets underway on Saturday, July 21 at 2 p.m. and continues on Sunday, July 22, then on July 28 and 29 and Aug. 4 and 5. All performances are rain or shine. For more information call 604-515-0704 or visit www.shad owsanddreams.org.

5 Get enlightened or help debunk some bunk by joining the Vancouver Skeptics for brunch and conversation at the Met Bar and Grill on Sunday, July 22 from 1 to 4 p.m. The group's website states that skepticism deals with subjects not often address by academia including: supernatural claims (ghosts, miracles, out-of-body experiences); pseudoscience, (UFOs, Bigfoot); pseudo psychology (recovered memories); and pseudo history. RSVP to the event via the group's pages on Facebook (July Skeptics brunch in New Westminster). The Met Bar and Grill is located at 411 Columbia St.
