By day, Nancy Stagg is the marketing coordinator at the Burnaby Village Museum, but in her spare time, you'll find her awash in brooms and rocks.
The recreational curler - she's not ashamed to admit that a team she was once on gave up the maximum eight points in one end - is the chair of the B.C. Westcoast Curling Classic Society, which will be hosting the biggest curling tournament in the Lower Mainland this year from Oct. 4 to 8 at the Royal City Curling Club.
Stagg deftly juggles the responsibilities for both jobs, and her day can include anything from managing school tours of the museum to taking a call from Olympic curling champion Kevin Martin.
Stagg took some time out of her busy day to answer questions about herself and how she makes it all work.
Lau: Introduce yourself - who you are, your title, how long you've been doing the job?
Stagg: Nancy Stagg, marketing coordinator at the Burnaby Village Museum for the past six-ish years. Chair of the B.C. Westcoast Curling Classic Society, which is putting on the 13th annual Westcoast Curling Classic in New Westminster Oct. 4 to 8
Lau: Best part of your job?
Stagg: No two days are ever the same.
Lau: Worst part?
Stagg: No two days are ever the same.
Lau: Activities/interests outside of the job?
Stagg: Running, eating, curling. I like old things - stories, objects, history.
Lau: If you're stuck on a desert island, what three items do you take and why?
Stagg: A Rutherfurd novel - I'd have a good chance to get through it; my husband (he listens and nods in all the right places, plus he cooks), an entertainment bag (with knitting, crocheting and maybe runners).
Lau: Favourite place in Burnaby or New West that isn't work-related (can't name the curling club or the Burnaby Village Museum!)
Stagg: The Heights (there are so many interesting shops and services).
Lau: Most interesting thing about you that your friends might not even know?
Stagg: Have enjoyed each phase of my life with no regrets.
I enjoy spending time with friends and meeting new people, but there are many times that I would rather just curl up with a glass of red wine and a good book. Don't like red hair.
Lau: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Stagg: I've been to Scotland and would love to see more. The rich history, wide open spaces - it's B.C. with more stories to tell.
Lau: What do you see yourself doing in a year, five years, 10 years (both on job and/or personally?)
Stagg: One year - more travel. Five years - possibly a bit of babysitting (grandchildren). Ten years - hmm, can't remember.
Lau: Mentor/someone you look up to?
Stagg: Paternal grandmother for her quiet strength; motherin-law for her ability to adapt; mother for her vision.
Lau: Last question - what's on your Christmas wish list?
Stagg: A family dinner at Shebeen's Whisky House.
