Foodies still have time to be wowed by some of the culinary offerings in New West.

Tej Kainth, executive director of Tourism New West, said people from around the Lower Mainland are coming to New West for the Feast on the Fraser and becoming more aware of the city’s culinary offerings. The event features a range of dining experiences over several days.

“I think people are very wowed by everything,” she said. “Every event has been wowing everyone. There’s something for everybody. That’s the beauty of this whole campaign. There’s something for every type of foodie out there.”

Tuesday’s event was a Rock Band Party at the Columbia, while Wednesday featured a palates and paint night at 100 Braid St Studios and a Heritage Grill Dine and Dance. Ten additional tickets have been just been released for tonight's (Thursday, Oct. 1) tribute to King Neptune at Wild Rice.

“A lot of the older generation knows what King Neptune was, but the younger generation is ‘What was King Neptune?,’” Kainth said.

The iconic seafood restaurant was located on the Fraser River at the foot of Eighth Street for many years. Wild Rice owner Andrew Wong is putting a contemporary spin on menu items from the King Neptune.

“He’s replicated a menu with a Wild Rice spin on it. They have reconstructed it, obviously with a Wild Rice flair. That’s our throwback Thursday event,” Kainth said. “Andrew always puts on a good spread. He knows how to host.”

The food festivities continue on Friday  with a wine-and-dine paddlewheeler cruise and belly dancing divas at Taverna Greka on Friday. Tourism New Westminster announced today that two events - the Feast on the Fraser at the Anvil with executive chef Nin Rai on Saturday and the Boston Pizza New West Master Chef Cook-off on Sunday - have been canceled.
