International Women’s Day programs kick off busy weekend in New West. Whether you want to celebrate International Women’s Day, enjoy an afternoon or evening of live entertainment, or support local daycare programs, New West is the place to be this weekend.

Friday, March 8

Celebration for International Women’s Day

Enjoy an evening of song, music, storytelling, comedy, poetry, rants and more at this International Women’s Day Celebration hosted by Laughter Zone. Well-known New Westie Janice Bannister is MCing this event, which features performers from different countries, with different stories, and different voices about identifying as a woman, including: Devon More; Marylee Stephenson; Tiara Cash; Simone Lovell; Eden Kaminski; Anh Ho; and more special guests.

Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg - ZOOM Artist Talk - International Women's Day

Listen to multidisciplinary artist Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg – speaking from London, England via Zoom – at this International Women’s Day talk at the New Media Gallery. Ginsberg’s work The Substitute is featured in the New Media Gallery’s new ZOOVEILLANCE exhibition.

Relive the Music

Enjoy a musical stroll down memory lane with Relive the Music, which takes the audience through music history, trivia and memories of the 50s and 60s. It’s described as being a “one-of-a-kind 50’s and 60’s jukebox musical concert with a Broadway feel with band, singers, dancing, tributes, video and trivia.”

Frog Belly Rat Bone

Enjoy an unforgettable performance when Axis Theatre Company presents Frog Belly Rat Bone in New West. This production incorporates handcrafted puppets and an original pop/rock musical score. Shows will be followed by a Q&A with the performers.

Anne of Green Gables (8-12 Years)

Explore one of Canada’s most beloved literary characters in this two-hour Anne of Green Gables class that’s being hosted by the New Westminster Museum and Archives. It’s for kids aged eight to 12.

Bottle drop

Take your recyclable beverage containers to the Royal City Rotary Club’s weekly bottle drop. This weekend’s event is raising funds for early childhood programs facilitated by the Lower Mainland Purpose Society.
