Summerfest returns to city

Family event features outdoor screening of The Princess Bride

Families are invited to bring swimsuits and a picnic blanket to Grimston Park on Saturday, July 14 for the third annual Summerfest celebration in New Westminster's West End.

Attendees can enjoy a familyfriendly afternoon splashing in the wading pool (open to 8 p.m. for the occasion) and listening to live music, as well as taking part in various activities.

The festival kicks off at 2 p.m., with old-fashioned picnic games such as three-legged races and balloon tosses beginning at 3 p.m.

A mini-farmers' market, run by the Royal City Farmers Market and Holy Perogy, will be on site from 3 to 7 p.m. Papa Dave's Pizza will also be selling fresh pizza on site.

Summerfest features live music by The Real Canadian Rock Band and Caitlin Beauregard, as well as face-painting by members of Job's Daughters. There will also be water play activities, games and kids' crafts.

Finally, at 9: 30 p.m., families can gather on the grass to munch on free popcorn and enjoy a screening of The Princess Bride on a big screen in the park.
