Summer doesn’t officially begin until June 21, but summer fun is already kicking into full swing in New West.

Here’s a look at some of the events featuring a summer vibe that are happening in New West in June – starting with this weekend’s official opening celebration for the Agnes Street Greenway and the Queensborough Children’s Festival.

Saturday, June 17

The Agnes Street Greenway grand opening celebration is on Saturday, June 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., near the intersection of Merivale and Agnes streets (close to École Qayqayt Elementary School). The family-friendly celebration includes a ribbon-cutting, an art show, a cycling activity, recognition of the new Indigenous crosswalk art, and free artisan ice pops for the first 100 attendees.

The Queensborough Children’s Festival features a great lineup of entertainment and activities for families. It’s happening from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Queensborough Community Centre’s outdoor stage and field (920 Ewen Ave., New Westminster). The entertainment lineup includes: Music with Marnie; Dance with Astou; and a surprise musical guest. Attendees can enjoy a variety of activities and purchase food from the Queensborough Community Centre Café, Mom’s Grilled Cheese Sandwiches or the Knights of Columbus hot dog and burger BBQ. (Due to limited parking, the Queensborough Special Programs committee encourages folks to walk or take public transit.)

The Glenbrooke North neighbourhood garage sale runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in a neighbourhood bounded by 10th and Sixth avenues and McBride Boulevard and Sixth Street. (It’s no longer hosted by the area’s residents’ association, but by Scott Clarke & Associates. Look for directional arrows and balloons to guide you to participating residences.)

Till June 30
