The Snowflake Spectacular is a new event in the Shine Bright New West lineup.

Community members had a spectacular time at last week’s launch of one of the newest Shine Bright New West events – and they get to do it again tonight.

Snowflake Spectacular, a new offering in the Shine Bright New West lineup, is a “whimsical interactive pop-up snowflake wonderland” that features live performances of music and dance, a giant magical snow globe, and special snowflake activities.

Following last Friday’s inaugural event, a second Snowflake Spectacular will be held on Friday, Dec. 15 (tonight) from 5 to 8 p.m. in Uptown Plaza.

“We were excited to see the community come together and brighten up Uptown Plaza by enjoying Snowflake Spectacular last Friday,” said Jennifer Bolcsfoldi, the city’s acting program coordinator of special events. “We encourage everyone in the community to come and participate in this whimsical interactive pop-up snowflake wonderland today.”

Bolcsfoldi said the city wanted to create a unique and enchanting experience that celebrates the community, uniting people to share in the magic and foster connections and sense of belonging.

“Collaborating with Small Stage has been a delightful journey, where they’ve brought a diverse range of skilled artists and innovative creative perspectives to deliver a culturally rich evening to our local community,” she said.

Small Stage, which aims to bring artists and audiences together through dance and music works that everyone can enjoy and appreciate, is thrilled to be involved in the Snowflake Spectacular.

“Small Stage is all about creating new platforms to share and connect, and I couldn’t be more excited to be collaborating with such an incredibly talented array of artists, as well as the representatives of this city, to put on such a special evening of performing arts for the local community,” said Julie-anne Saroyan, Small Stage’s creative producer.

Community members are invited to drop by tonight’s event and enjoy the soulful stylings of Krystal Dos Santos, a Western Canadian Music Award-winning artist, who will be surrounded by a troupe of dancers, including Kaleah Crump, Jessica Keeling, Nasiv Salle and Alex Shigetomi.

Performances will run every 20 minutes from 5 to 8 p.m. in Uptown Plaza, located at Sixth and Belmont streets.

Shine Bright New West includes a variety of activities, cultural experiences and illuminated outdoor spaces, including the Wishing Tree in Moody Park and Gardens of Light in various parks and open spaces in the city. It runs from Dec. 1 to 31 in neighbourhoods across New Westminster.
