Students in the jazz ensembles at NWSS are getting ready for their annual jazz night fundraiser, Swinging Into Spring, May 14 at Anvil Centre.

The New Westminster Secondary School music program is hoping the community will come out this weekend and show its support for the program during its ninth annual Band-athon.

Every year the high school’s band and choir students team up to put on a free four-hour-long show to raise money for the music program.

This year’s event is happening Saturday, Nov. 3 from noon to 4 p.m. at Royal City Centre, 610 Sixth St.

Folks can expect to hear a mix of musical genres, including classical, contemporary, jazz and pop. The kids will be singing and playing for the duration of the event, so stop by and donate a buck or two or 20.

“This is more than just a fundraiser, it’s an opportunity for the students to raise some much-needed funding for both their band trips and the music program. The NWSS music department is dedicating this day to just that effort,” notes a press release.

Can’t make it in person to the event? You can donate online at www.nwssmusic.com and click on the Pay-pal link to donate to the program.
