Mark your calendars for the annual Seniors' and Family Festival coming up next month.

The City of New Westminster's yearly festival showcases entertainment, a kids' zone and info booths for community resources for seniors and families.

This year's festival is on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Royal City Centre, 610 Sixth St., and admission is free.

Community performers will entertain the crowd, and there will be a kids' section with face-painters, a clown, mini golf and fun activities.

One zone is dedicated to information booths for services available in New Westminster, mostly non-profits that help seniors and families.

At press time, more than 20 organizations had signed up to participate in the festival. Examples include the Century House Association, the Hyack Swim Club and the B.C. Centre for Elder Advocacy and Support. There will be more than $200 worth of door prizes as well.

"You come, you can watch the entertainment, you can have a little snack," said Coun. Betty McIntosh, one of the organizers. "It's a fun activity day."

Entertainers include an Elvis Presley impersonator, a bagpiper and the Vivo Children's Choir.

The event combines two festivals: Celebrating Seniors Festival and Family Day, which were previously celebrated separately.
