About 80 students from grades 8 to 12 took part in an artsy event on Tuesday in anticipation of Pink Shirt Day on Feb. 24.

Organized in part by Sarah Weatherby, a youth care worker at New Westminster Secondary, students were invited to spend their lunch hour decorating pink T-shirts with positive messages that they would wear on Pink Shirt Day Wednesday.

Weatherby had expected more students would join in the fun, but was pleased nonetheless with the enthusiasm of the kids who came out.

Students who didn’t want to decorate a T-shirt had the option of decorating small, paper shirts. These paper tees, which students had adorned with messages of kindness, were to be hung around the school on Pink Shirt Day.
