What’s happening?
The Seniors Services Society is presenting its second annual Evening in Tuscany fundraiser, which features food, entertainment, a silent auction and a live auction with MC Peter Legge. Evening in Tuscany takes place on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. at La Perla Ballroom on the second floor of River Market.
Why should I attend?
The Seniors Services Society has been offering support services, housing assistance, community education and volunteer opportunities for New Westminster seniors for more than 30 years. The society notes there are seniors in New Westminster who face loneliness and isolation on a daily basis, with many needing assistance with things that many people take for granted, such as going grocery shopping, getting to a doctor’s appointment or having someone to chat with.
What type of programs does the society offer?
The Seniors Services Society offers a number of programs to help New West seniors, including Meals on Wheels, Better at Home (funded by the B.C. government through the United Way), lunch, dinner and social outings on the bus and AIRS (Assistance, Information and Referral for Seniors).
What will the money raised go toward?
Evening at Tuscany will raise money to support the Meals on Wheels program, the bus programs, AIRS and the Seniors Services Society’s volunteer program. Last year, more than 100 volunteers donated almost 10,000 hours to driving, making friendly phone calls, assisting with form filling and tax returns, and chaperoning trips to local restaurants, entertainment and sites. Through the fundraising efforts and a strong volunteer program, the society is able to keep program costs free or minimal for people on fixed incomes.
How do i get tickets?
Tickets are $100 (with a $50 tax receipt) and are available at www.seniorsservicessociety.ca or 604-520-6621.
