What’s happening?

Celebrate Canada Day at two local celebrations, including a celebration of lights over the Fraser River and an afternoon of fun at Queen’s Park.

What’s happening during the day?

The City of New Westminster is holding its Canada Day celebrations in Queen’s Park on Friday, July 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will once again feature entertainment, crafts, activities for the whole family and the popular Pick-A-Box silent auction.

Is there anything special happening this year?

This year’s Canada Day celebration honours the 100th anniversary of women’s first right to vote in Canada - 2016 marks 100 years since women were allowed to vote in a provincial election.  

What’s happening on the evening of Canada Day?

The Hyack Festival Association is partnering with the City of New Westminster to present an evening of fireworks over the Fraser River. Community members are invited to head to the waterfront to watch the fireworks that will begin at 10 p.m. and last about 30 minutes.

Best place to watch the fireworks?

We’re told that Westminster Pier Park and River Market are great spots to view New West’s Canada Day fireworks.
