Quayside residents get update on riverfront projectsThe Quayside Community Board’s annual general meeting will highlight some of the key projects planned for the New West waterfront.

The annual general meeting takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. at River Market, with registration beginning at 6:15 p.m.

New Westminster Fire Chief Tim Armstrong will talk about evacuation and emergency preparedness, while Coun. Jaimie McEvoy will provide updates on the Q2Q crossing, Poplar Landing development (the site between the Rialto and the Kruger plant) and the new Quayside Park.

Brian Dodd, interim executive director of the Seniors Services Society, will speak about the society’s upcoming Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser. Its goal is to raise $45,000 at the fundraiser taking place at River Market and the Quay on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Representatives from Bosa Development will update residents about the company’s proposed development on the site between Fraser River Discovery Centre and Westminster Pier Park. The site, currently home to a parking lot, is proposed to become the future home of 53-storey (180-metre) and 43-storey (149-metre) highrises, two acres of greenspace next to Westminster Pier Park, a plaza at Begbie Street, completion of the waterfront esplanade, a 40-space child-care facility and at-grade commercial space in a two-storey building.

Along with the presentations, the annual general meeting includes executive reports from the Quayside Community Board and appointment of its 2017 board of directors and executive.

“The QCB AGM has a long tradition of a good audience, informative speakers and community groups,” said a press release about the meeting. “All Quayside residents are invited to attend.”
