Popcorn program a success for B.C. Transplant Society in New Westminster

Medical staff at Royal Columbian Hospital got a special delivery of popcorn this week as part of the B.C. Transplant Societys annual Operation Popcorn campaign.

Medical staff at Royal Columbian Hospital got a special delivery of popcorn this week as part of the B.C. Transplant Societys annual Operation Popcorn campaign.

On Tuesday, volunteers from the society delivered giant tins of popcorn to doctors, nurses and other hospital staff at hospitals across the province in a gesture of thanks.

So far this year, medical workers around the province have helped to save 300 lives, according a press release.

Operation Popcorn started more than 20 years ago as a way to acknowledge medical workers who deal with organ donors families and help make organ donation possible.

At RCH on Tuesday to hand out the popcorn tins were Darvy Culleton, a double-lung recepient, Todd Reid, who donated one of his kidneys to his best friend, and Brenda Williams, who donated one of her kidneys to her son.
